'What is an equity release programme?'
|
An Equity Release Scheme
is designed to enable people to release some of the value tied up in their property, and so receive either a cash sum, additional income or a combination of both to supplement their living costs.
An equity release scheme may also be highly tax efficient in that it can assist by reducing a potential liability to Inheritance Tax.
There are a number of schemes available
, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. Investors need to research them thoroughly or seek independent financial advice in order to understand the terms and conditions and find out:
- How the scheme would affect the value and ownership of their property?
- Is there exposure to the stock market in order to achieve cash/income?
